چکیده

We describe the breaking of supersymmetry in M-theory by coordinate dependent (ScherkSchwarz) compactification of the eleventh dimension. Supersymmetry is spontaneously broken in the gravitational and moduli sector and communicated to the observable sector, living at the end-point of the semicircle, by radiative gravitational interactions. This mechanism shares the generic features of non-perturbative supersymmetry breaking by gaugino condensation, in the presence of a constant antisymmetric field strength, in the weakly coupled regime of the heterotic string, which suggests that both mechanisms could be related by duality. In particular an analysis of supersymmetric transformations in the infinite-radius limit reveals the presence of a discontinuity in the spinorial parameter, which coincides with the result found in the presence of gaugino condensation, while the condensate is identified with the quantized parameter entering the boundary conditions. Based on invited talks delivered at: 5th International Conference on Supersymmetries in Physics, SUSY 97, May 27-31, 1997, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, USA; International Europhysics Conference on High Energy Physics, HEP 97, 19-26 August, Jerusalem, Israel. Supersymmetric Q-balls as dark matter

Supersymmetric extensions of the standard model generically contain stable non-topological solitons, Q-balls, which carry baryon or lepton number. We show that large Q-balls can be copiously produced in the early universe, can survive until the present time, and can contribute to dark matter. Bertotti–robinson Geometry and Supersymmetry

The role of Bertotti–Robinson geometry in the attractor mechanism of extremal black holes is described for the case of N = 2 supersymmetry. Its implication for a modelindependent derivation of the Bekenstein–Hawking entropy formula is discussed. Talk given at the 12th Italian Conference on General Relativity and Gravitational Physics Rome, September 1996 CERN-TH/97-10 January 1997 BERTOTTI–ROBI...

Target Fragmentation at Polarized HERA : A Test of Universal Topological Charge Screening in QCD 1

Topological charge screening has been proposed as the mechanism responsible for the anomalous suppression in the first moment of the polarized proton structure function – the ‘proton spin’ effect. An immediate consequence is that this suppression should be targetindependent, since the screening is a fundamental property of the QCD vacuum. Here, we study the possibility of testing the target-ind...
